NMT Remote V.3.5.115 Updated, Fixes Crash Problem for iOS 4.2

A new version (V.3.5.115) is in review, that fixes the crash problem for the latest firmware available for iPhone 3G and older devices.

Also Play function (playing the entire directory from the selected music or video file and downwards) has been re-written and works stable and much more faster especially for large directories.

The update should be available in the next following days from the App Store.

Update: Version 3.5.115 is available from the App Store.

  1. Hi Teo,

With the app you can control the CD-player in the NMT as well, which is cool. Unfortunately it can only show the content of a burnt MP3-CD. It doesn't show the tracks on a regularly bought CD (what are those, WAV's?).
You can still control the CD with the remote, but I would love to be able to select a certain track on the CD. Could this be made possible?

    2. Thanks Repelstale for the info.
I haven't a CD enabled NMT but i know for sure that audio cd's aren't plain wav files.
I can't say that i'll look into it, but i'll keep it in mind.

  2. I just purchased this app and noticed a300 series is not in the settings list. My a300 isn't here yet, on order, but will this app work with the new 300 series players? I didn't think this would be an issue but now I'm wondering if this app will actually work for me?

    1. I haven't got an A300 unit nor am i planning on getting one, but i know from other users that it's not working.

There shouldn't be much change compared to the a200 but i'll have to see if i can work with someone to support this unit.

  3. Dear Theo,

I've put my CD's as *.wav-files in folders on my harddisk in the C200. If I select a different folder using the media button, open the folder and press play it doesn't play the selected song, but it plays the first song of the first (since start up) opened folder. Before the update this was a great way to start playing a new CD (without using the TV or display on the C200). Is there a way to solve this?

    1. Hi,

if i understand correctly, if you select folder
      Album 1
and then start playing first song
      Song0101

      go back and select
      Album 2
and then start playing first song of Album 2
      Song0201

it actually starts playing the list from Album 1 and Song0101?

      Teo

    2. Correct.
Haven't tried Enter yet to see if this will select the right song (but if it does, it will only play that one song and not the next ones in the folder)

    3. I've found out what changed with the update. With the previous version, you could browse on the ipad to another folder, select a song, push play and the nmt started to play the files in that folder.
If I now do the same the play button is simply a play button and will play the file which was already selected and not the newly selected. This means you can't select a different folder on the ipad (using the media button on the bottom left) and push play to play all the items in that folder (or even the new selected file).

  5. Hi Teo,

It seems that your app is having difficulty starting certain flac and ape.cue files. The strange thing is that the Popcorn Hour can play these files just fine when I start them while browsing with the regular remote using the PCH-screen or TV-screen. So it seems that this is a shortcoming of your app. Could you please fix this? It's really annoying and quite embarrasing to get stuck like this with the app while the machine itself has no problem playing the files.

And the app seems to crash a lot on my iPhone 4S lately. It used to be something very rare for me to have to restart the app, but now it crashes a lot.

    With kind regards,

    Repelstale

    1. Hi Repelstale,

thanks for your feedback. I'll have to look into flac and cue files.

About the crashing can you send me a crash log from your iphone?

    2. Sorry for the late response, Teo.

I'm too much of a simpleton to know how to get logfiles, but it mainly crashes when trying to open those flac-files. So I guess if you take care of that problem, you'll have fixed most of the crashing as well.

Have you made any progress regarding those flac and cue-files? Especially the flac-files, since they are everywhere.

      Thanks beforehand for your solution

      With kind regards,

    3. Hi Repelstale,

concerning flac files these are nothing more, for the app, than audio files. I have tested these in the past and just ripped another cd for testing and they are working.

You mentioned at the point, the app has difficulty staring "certain flac and app.cue files". Do these flac files don't start at all? Could it be some weird character in the filename?

Could you try to change the filename just to test it? Also if you want to send me an email maybe i have the same cd so i can test.

    4. That is more or less what I tried to explain on the 3rd of April as well. The new play button works as a play button for the already selected file on the tv screen and not in the source / media tab.

  7. @Marc

please don't confuse the above problem.

Concerning the play button as you mentioned, i've finished doing some extensive teasing between 4 albums and the play button works as expected. This is from the play button from the media tab, since this is directly connected to the selected song.

The problem you mentioned and i asked for clarification was with this button or the play button from the general remote?

The remote tab emulates the functions or the original remote and mainly corresponds to the screen. It could be a confusing for someone using it instead of the main remote when pressing play.

If this is the problem i could create a setting for the play/enter button in correspondence to media tab source or the on screen tv listing.

  8. Hi Teo,

For some reason, the "reply"-option didn't work, so I had to put this comment at the bottom. It's about those unplayable flac.-files, a few posts up.

It seems that you're right: it had nothing to
do with the file being a flac-file. As you suggested I took one file, gave it a real short and simple name, and took it out of its sub-sub-subfolder, right in the music-folder of my NAS. And then it played fine.

So the big question is how do I have to rename it. In one case, my collection of music by Schubert, I just skipped an unnecessary subfolder, taking the files to a higher level, and that was fine.

In another case, my collection of mysic by Beethoven, I tinkered with filename-length, but than I found out it seemed related to certain characters, for examle "&" and "'", preventing the files from getting opened with your app. Since the Beethoven collection consists of 100 albums, each album containing 15-20 tracks, you can see why I will not be changing every trackname manually...

Once again, when I open these files with the PCH remote, there's no problem. So it still a flaw in your app. Could you please fix it so certain characters don't prevent files from being opened? I don't know if this is a major programming issue, but it would surely help me out big time.

  9. It's not just .flac's. There are certain folders, whenever you open a track in them, the app just crashes. Mind you, this happens both on the app on my iPad, and on the one on my iPhone, so it's not device related. Please fix. I just wasted what could have been a perfectly fine evening listening to music in the garden, because the app won't work properly.

    1. Hi Repelstale,

I know there's been a problem for certain special characters over the past, but i thought this problem was fixed (including the &, ' you metion).

Since this has nothing to do with the type of files could you please tell me when do you encounter this problem? With pressing 'Enter' and/or 'Play' button?

Do you encounter this problem when there is a "&" character in the file? I asking because the "&" and "'" are the most common special characters and were dealt in the early stages of the app. Of course something might have broken.

I'll do also some testing to verify this.

      Teo

  10. Well, I just fixed something by removing a '-character, so things aren't flawless yet.

About sending you a crashlog, what's your e-mail adress?

Maybe things have to do with the fact that I installed a switch downstairs because my Wireless router in the attic wasn't able to reach every part of the house. I gave the switch the same name, so that my iPhone en iPad just had one network to connect to. This worked well indoors (although I suspect my Squeezebox had a little trouble with "two" networks to connect to), but now when I'm outdoors my iPhone gets severely confused sometimes, and I have to go indoors againg to re-establish a connection between your app and the PCH. This involves rebooting at least one of the devices most of the time, which is really frustrating. Any thoughts on this?

    2. Hi,
nice to hear it's working for you. Sorry but i haven't done any documentation.

To work with playlists you have to create/select a playlist as current and then the 'add' to playlist button (when selecting a song to play) will add it to the current playlist.

I'm in the process of re-designing this, since it is a bit confusing.

  14. Hi Teo,

Any news yet on the problem I described earlier about the app not being able to play certain tracks (depending on certain characters? length of filename? too "deep" into the subfolders? filetype? more of the above? otherwise?), or even crashing when pushing play on a certain track?

I've been playing a lot of music on my PCH lately, and I see more and more cases of tracks that the app can't handle, while the PCH itself (with the regular remote and the little PCH-screen) has no problem handling.

    Hoping you can fix this.

And another thing: would it be possible to show on the app if the PCH is turned on or off? Now you just see the start button, but when you press it you don't know if you're turning the machine on or off.

Finally, any news yet on the easy playlist generating?

    With kind regards,

    Repelstale

  15. Hi Repelstale,

I was a bit preoccupied and i didn't manage to sort this out. I will start doing some testing (again) by the end of week involving special characters and see how it goes.

Concerning playlist generating (adding complete folders and single files) i have done some changes to the interface but it also needs some time to finish it up.

Concerning your request to visual show on the app if the pch is on or off i will certainly take a look at it.

  16. Hi Teo,

I truly appreciate your time and effort you put in your app. It's truly the "app to beat" when it comes to controlling Popcorn Hours.

Listen, it's the crashing and malfunctioning on certain files that's really bothering me. The rest is just ... extra. If you could just get it to work on every track (in every subfolder) that the Popcorn Hour itself can handle, without crashing or malfunctioning, that would be awesome enough for me.

  17. Teo,

I love the app and use it everyday but I have one feature request please? I now have three popcorn hours and would love the ability to use the app with them all. Is there any chance of adding in multi-popcorn support?

    1. Hi Repelstale,

i did some testing concerning some basic special characters (& ` % ^) using 'Play' and 'Enter'. These seem to work fine. Could you please copy the filenames that crash the app onto a usb flash drive and test them from there.
Since i just can't seem to recreate this problem, could you give some more detailed information. Send my an email (teo.emmanuel@gmail) stating the full directory path and the contents (listing) of a directory that has this problem. I will re-create this structure to see what is going on.

      Thank you.

  19. I will do that, Teo. Thanks.

How about file-type, like ape, cue and certain flac's? Should these work fine (and isn't it a matter of filetype that causes the malfunctioning), or is there room for improvement?

    1. Hi Repelstale,

nmt remote just recognizes the file types, and tells the pch to play them. So if these don't play then it has something to do with the path/filename and not the actual file itself.

    1. Hi,

if you have a pch 100 series check if you have installed busybox26 correctly.
Also in the the settings setting, if you have installed to hard disk, busybox26 location should be
      Hard disk
      /bin

  21. I found the problem, actualy misunderstanding. there is a /bin folder on popcorn and it has to have busybox26 in it (which it had after CSP install).

I wrongly set up remote app to point to Hard disk - /apps/telnetd/bin where it should have been HARD disk /bin

Thanx for the work, works fabulous. Browsing multiple folders and subfolders hasn't been easier!

I would suggest you add video files to playlist and mixed audio/vuideo files too.

Also, puicking up a file and transfering it to iphone would be fabulous...if possible....

i don't know if R6S is the same as the m34a but you could try a different box the NMT Device setting. The media tab depends on the type of NMT Device.

If you are connected the remote control should work. Also the busybox26 is used for the file playback.
